MAKING WINE AT DOUBLE STRAND

We make our wines with intention, attention, science, and care letting the fruit tell us what it wants to be.

We practice our own style of “low intervention” winemaking; we test numerous parameters all the time, but we only intervene when absolutely needed.

We source a wide variety of grapes from within 5 miles of our winery.

One of the amazing things about our home in the Columbia Gorge is the diversity of varietals that can grow in our region. As you drive west to east through the Gorge, the annual rainfall drops from approximately 75-80 inches near Cascade Locks, OR to less than 14 inches/year around The Dalles, OR. Our growing elevations range from just above sea level to 2,000 ft.

Our wines currently include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Grenache for Rosé, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc.

The Cherry Melomel (fruit mead) came about by pure serendipity.  The former owners of the Double Strand Wine property gave us 30 pounds of local honey and we had just picked cherries at a neighbor’s orchard.  Reading through our books, we learned about combining these ingredients to make a sweet dessert style mead.  We took the chance and it was an immediate favorite.  So we have continued to make our Cherry Melomel, adding cherry varietals with time.

We value our local providers and the excellence of their grapes, cherries and honey and use their ingredients to make wine as if it was all for our family and friends - high quality, enjoyable, and priced like what we’d want to pay for a good bottle.
